Also, as a point of interest, older programs may not be able to wait while resources load in the same manner as modern ones, whilst I suspect this, I have no way of measuring it. I have found that Win 7 64 bit manages system resources more effectively than XP, but with one or two other processes open such as the Internet and Adobe Reader, the system memory soon gets used. Also, how much system RAM are you using? I am using 8Gb, but there will always be the odd system around with 4Gb. I am using Win 7 Pro 64 bit, and have not tried Win 10 yet because of incompatibility issues, although I don't think that this is the problem here. If you are not using this, you could always zip up unused routes in the Routes folder, but the stock they use will always be referenced, and not so quick to zip and unzip to make changes.Īlso, moving the installation away from the main drive to another one will always help with editing issues, especially with 3rd party tools.
Are you using Trainstore? If not, you may find that your PC system resources clog up quite quickly. I couldn't help noticing this post as the stand out thing to my mind is the resource issue mentioned before. One of these days I will go through the pain of an O/S re-installation and maybe that will solve the ploblem. The only conclusion that I can come to is that there is some other software on my main machine that is causing the AE crash but I can't figure out what it might be. Interestingly, when the AE starts to load an activity, the Player service and the Display Name boxes get filled in correctly (implying that it's reading the. (I tried several activities, all with the same result.) AE crashed on trying to open a default activity on a default route using default stock. I renamed my MSTS folder, uninstalled MSTS through the Control Panel, reinstalled MSTS (into D:\MSTS) and installed only the default content. With the same set-up I created and saved a totally new activity, which went okay, but on trying to open it, AE crashed. AE crashed on opening the activity on my main machine but not on my backup machine. I tried it on both machines with the content copied from one machine to the other. Stripping the MSTS installation down to one route with one loco, one consist and one very simple activity. Since I put up the original post I've tried a lot of things with no success.
